Assos

Castle
Built on a west coast rock outcrop , the castle commands impressive views over the horseshoe bay of the quiet resort village of Assos on one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline of the island. The castle is one of the largest in Greece and was built by the Venetians in the early 17th century in response to a request from Kefalonians for protection from pirate raids on the island. Nowadays you can enjoy the view and admire what is left of its former glory. One of the monuments on this castle is the residence of the Venetian ruler (1593), the barracks and the church of Saint Marco. The big vault entrance of the castle still stands impressive and is preserved in good condition.
Myrtos
